NB Guest Info
Hi there, Stoney Ridge Guest
Below, please find important info relevant to your stay with us:
There is currently only MTN cellphone signal in the camp at Stoney Ridge.
There is occasionally signal for the other operators, but not much.
So, if necessary, make “last minute calls” either in Estcourt or Colenso
(depending on which side you are approaching from).
Please fill you vehicles up with petrol / diesel prior to arriving at the farm
(Estcourt is last garage from Durban side,
Harrismith {preferable} / Colenso from JHB side).
Please also ensure that you have sufficient supplies of items such as
personal medication, goodies that the kids will require (e.g. special juices / nappies etc)
or cigarettes (if you smoke) – it is an unnecessary hassle to have to leave the farm
to go and purchase these items (6km of dirt driving before you even reach the tar).
Clothing: Stoney Ridge is a relaxed venue where casual comfort is encouraged.
Jeans, casual shirts, shorts, t-shirts, windcheaters, strops, tackies, boots
are the order of the day - the same applies for dinner.
IMPORTANT: Please bring along a radiator grass seed net for the front of your vehicle
if you are participating in driver training. These can be purchased at most outdoor / 4x4 shops
(e.g. Outdoor Warehouse, Makro etc). It is effectively a piece of “shade cloth” with hooks on,
which you attach to the front of your vehicle to stop grass seeds and other debris going in.
Spanset / Securetech is a good make.
Size: rather buy the larger one - 1000mm x 800mm.
IMPORTANT ITEMS TO BRING ALONG:
Torch & Bath towel.
Whatever refreshments you require beyond tea and coffee
e.g. cool drinks, bottled water, alcohol (after-hours only).
Be sure to bring extra along water / juices for out on track.
(I would ‘budget’ as many as 4 to 6 (500ml) waters / adult / half day
for out on track in mid-summer, a little less in winter.)
TIP: Freeze half of your waters at least a week before.
(Provides ice bottles for your cooler box & iced waters afterwards.
Something to keep your drinks cool e.g. a cooler box to leave in the Boma,
Ice, and perhaps a smaller cooler box to take in vehicle on track.
Hat and sunscreen.
Peaceful sleep for mozzies (note that we are NOT a malaria area)
& to spray on legs so that ticks don’t climb onto you out in bush on track.
Sensible walking / driving shoes (“slops” not ideal to walk on track / drive
– some prefer to bring them along for in camp / to shower in).
All toiletries (soap, toothbrush, toothpaste etc).
A costume & swimming towel if you wish to swim in the river.
Bring along some warm clothing for the evenings / early mornings
(can occasionally be a bit chilly even in summer).
Not necessary, but fun for the family and those not training:
Mountain bikes, board games, bird books and binoculars.
There is also delicious game biltong for sale (most of the time)
– made with Stoney Ridge’s special recipe.
Should you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Kind Regards
